All-Digital Interface ASIC for a QCM-Based Electronic Nose
نویسندگان
چکیده
An all digital interface, application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) has been developed for the control and data sampling of a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM)-based electronic nose. The ASIC is capable of measuring QCM resonant frequency between 0 – 11 MHz with a resolution of 1 Hz and +/1 Hz precision. The ASIC has been used to obtain measurements from polymer coated QCM sensors, in conjunction with polymer/carbon-black coated micro-resistance (R) sensors, in the detection of primary alcohols. A full SoC electronic nose, currently under test, which supports arrays of 8 QCM and 8 R sensors along with onchip processing capability, is also described.

Classification of Multiple Chinese Liquors by Means of a QCM-based E-Nose and MDS-SVM Classifier
Chinese liquors are internationally well-known fermentative alcoholic beverages. They have unique flavors attributable to the use of various bacteria and fungi, raw materials, and production processes. Developing a novel, rapid, and reliable method to identify multiple Chinese liquors is of positive significance. This paper presents a pattern recognition system for classifying ten brands of Chi...
متن کاملA Low Noise CMOS Readout Based on a Polymer-Coated SAW Array for Miniature Electronic Nose
An electronic nose (E-Nose) is one of the applications for surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors. In this paper, we present a low-noise complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) readout application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) based on an SAW sensor array for achieving a miniature E-Nose. The center frequency of the SAW sensors was measured to be approximately 114 MHz. Because of inter...
متن کاملASIC Design of Butterfly Unit Based on Non-Redundant and Redundant Algorithm
Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) processors employed with pipeline architecture consist of series of Processing Elements (PE) or Butterfly Units (BU). BU or PE of FFT performs multiplication and addition on complex numbers. This paper proposes a single BU to compute radix-2, 8 point FFT in the time domain as well as frequency domain by replacing a series of PEs. This BU comprises of fused floating ...
متن کاملIEEE 1451 . 4 : A way to standardize gas sensor
The selection of the optimal sensors to use in an electronic nose is fundamental to the success or failure of any particular olfactory system in a certain application. The experimentation and characterization of gas sensors require complex electronic noses designed for the specific sensor array under test. The absence of design generalizations and standard interfaces in artificial chemical sens...
متن کاملAdding a Mixed-Signal PLL to a Prime Digital ASIC
Many ASIC companies make it easy to add a PLL, offering the core as a drop-in cell on a standard-cell design or as a cell option in a gate array. However, that seemingly simple addition of a PLL cell to an all-digital ASIC can cause several problems if the ASIC designer isn’t careful. Although much of what is inside a PLL circuit is high-speed digital circuitry, the guts of the PLL include anal...
